Oregon Ballet Theatre (OBT) is a classically-based professional ballet company, established in 1989, in Portland, Oregon. The company performs an annual season of programs at the Keller Auditorium and Newmark Theatre while participating in many community events as well as regional and national touring.
OBT has grown from being a respected regional company to one of national significance, as evidenced by the invitation to perform at the Kennedy Center in 2008, as part of the “Ballet Across America” series in 2013 and Wolf Trap in 2014. The recent additions of Artistic Director, Kevin Irving, and Executive Director, Dennis Buehler, position OBT for significant growth opportunities in the years to come.
In addition to the performing company, The School of Oregon Ballet Theatre is recognized as one of the premiere ballet schools in the country. OBT’s mission also includes a far reaching dance education and outreach program throughout Portland and Oregon. OBT is supported by an annual budget of more than $5 million. Learn More

Dance-in-Schools Teaching Artist | Education Outreach Department
NOTE: Thank you for your interest in working with Oregon Ballet Theatre’s Education Outreach department. We are not accepting applications at this time. Please check back in the future!
OBT employs dance-in-schools teaching artists — as part of a cohort of enthusiastic ambassadors for the art form — to bring ballet alive in young learners, primarily Pre-K—8. The central goal of Oregon Ballet Theatre’s Education Outreach department is to enrich the lives of children and adults by providing meaningful learning experiences that get people doing, thinking, and wondering about dance. OBT’s Education Outreach programs occur throughout the year: as teaching residencies in public and private schools Pre-K through college; as educationally focused performances; as studio tours and lectures; and as experiential events in community venues.
