A Message from OBT Artistic Director, Kevin Irving
We are living through incredibly challenging times of upheaval in both our personal and professional lives. The current paradox of having to self-isolate in order to protect our community is one that has deeply affected the entire arts and culture sector. For everyone’s safety, all rehearsals, classes, events, have been indefinitely halted.
As a valued member of the OBT community, we know you can appreciate the impact this global emergency will have on our financial health. The bulk of our resources go to producing world-class performance and training/educational opportunities for our community, not to building up cash reserves to insulate ourselves. If you are interested in finding out how you can help OBT be part of a healthy community for years to come, please click here.
The mission of Oregon Ballet Theatre, is to share, inspire, and connect. The immediate need to distance ourselves from each other has made it impossible to deliver on this mission through our traditional methods, but OBT is committed to providing art to our community in new and innovative ways, regardless of the situation. So OBT will be ready to share and connect again as soon as we possibly can – and in the meantime, please continue to count on OBT for inspiration!

Dear OBT School Students & Families,
We write to update you that with the April 8 announcement from Governor Brown extending the statewide school closures through June 6, OBT School is following suit regarding the continued suspension of all in-person classes, workshops, rehearsals, and activities.
Our staff is compiling resources and information for our student body to offer a personal conditioning regimen from home. These online resources are being compiled to encourage everyone to stay connected to, inspired by, and engaged with OBT and the art form in the weeks to come. Our online learning platform is called OBTS CONNECTS! Currently registered students have received an e-mail with further information on how to participate in this thoughtfully currated content.
OBT School is optimistic that the length of this interruption will be sufficient to avoid any spread of the virus, with classes and programming planned to resume fully for this summer in line with Portland Public Schools District, as well as state and local best practices. We so miss seeing all the happy and engaged young dancers in our studios!
OBT remains committed to ensuring that our community continues to be safe and healthy.
In good health,
Marion Tonner, OBT School Director
Kevin Irving, OBT Artistic Director
Michael Greer, OBT Executive Director
