Few ballets capture the full splendor of classical dance quite like The Sleeping Beauty – and this February, Oregon Ballet Theatre invites audiences to experience it on an epic scale.
From February 13–21 at the Keller Auditorium, OBT presents Christopher Stowell’s magnificent production of The Sleeping Beauty, coached by renowned ballerina and répétiteur Sofiane Sylve. Featuring OBT Company dancers alongside students from the OBT School, this production is a breathtaking celebration of artistry, tradition, and community.
A Classical Masterpiece, Reimagined at OBT
Set to Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s iconic score, The Sleeping Beauty is revered for its technical demands, lush storytelling, and sweeping pageantry. Christopher Stowell, former Artistic Director of Oregon Ballet Theatre, brings his deep reverence for classical tradition to this production, emphasizing musicality, clarity of storytelling, and refined craftsmanship.
The ballet’s expansive cast allows OBT’s dancers to shine while also creating rare performance opportunities for students of the OBT School, bringing the company’s full artistic ecosystem together on one stage.

“The Everest of Ballets”
OBT Artistic Director Dani Rowe describes The Sleeping Beauty as both a personal and institutional milestone:
“The Sleeping Beauty is artistically satisfying in the deepest way—it’s the Everest of ballets. This production challenges and rewards our artistic staff, our dancers, our students, and our audiences alike. To present Christopher Stowell’s vision of this work, coached by Sofiane Sylve, is a powerful reflection of where OBT has been and where we are going.”
Coaching by Sofiane Sylve
Internationally celebrated ballerina Sofiane Sylve brings extraordinary insight and elegance to this production. Her coaching emphasizes purity of line, emotional nuance, and technical brilliance – raising the level of the entire ensemble and honoring the ballet’s classical roots.
Where Professional Performance Meets Education
One of the most extraordinary aspects of this production is the seamless integration of OBT Company dancers and OBT School students. With its large cast and intricate choreography, The Sleeping Beauty exemplifies OBT’s commitment to excellence in both performance and training, offering young dancers the opportunity to learn and perform alongside seasoned professionals.
