Beatrice Antonie Martino
Beatrice Antonie Martino, who goes by Bea, is a long time dancer and lover of all things creative. Born in Vienna, Austria, to a concert violinist and art historian, Bea grew up surrounded by the arts. Bea fell in love with dance at a young age, and has trained in ballet and modern (with a special emphasis on Humphrey-Limon technique), Irish Dance, and a variety of partner dances including Jukin’ Blues, Balroomin’ Blues, Lindyhop, Salsa, Bachata, and Tango. Bea received a B.A. with honors in Dance and Psychology from UC Santa Barbara, and an M.A. in Grief Studies from NYU Gallatin School of Individualized Study (Artistic Thesis: What Remains: Ritual Spaces for the Contemporary Mourner).
Bea’s professional career has varied, but has never strayed far from dance or the performing arts. They have worked as a performer, designer, producer, choreographer, and stage manager in New York, California, and Oregon. Bea discovered the joy of stage management in 2022, when they had to fill in at the last minute for a friend. Stage management came naturally and joyfully to Bea, as a perfectly balanced cocktail of administrative organization and creative artistry. They joined OBT as Assistant Stage Manager in 2023, and have been delightedly pursuing it ever since, working both in dance and opera. In addition to OBT, they have stage managed for Kate Digby Dance, Brave New World Repertory Theater NYC, Orpheus PDX, and will be briefly joining the team at Portland Opera this Fall for their production of La Boheme. Bea is a member of the American Guild of Musical Artists.
When they aren’t stage managing, Bea continues to create original art and produce events. They are a producing partner of Edge Effect Media Group in NYC, and a freelance artist and creative consultant working on both coasts. Learn more about Bea and their work at beatricemartino.com.
