Now Presenting:

Princess and the Pea

April 3 – 11, 2026

Newmark Theatre | 1111 SW Broadway Ave., Portland, OR 97205

with Rubies and Unsaid

Tradition with a Twist

Headlining this vibrant mixed bill is a co-production with The Joffrey Ballet: Dani Rowe’s Princess and the Pea, a playful and rebellious twist on a classic tale. In the rigid world of Pea Town, where only peas are allowed, one brave girl dares to challenge the iron rule of a spoiled Princess. With wit, determination, and an unexpected ally, she embarks on a battle of wills that just might change everything.

“Quirky, wacky, and loads of fun.” – Chicago Sun Times

Dazzling and dynamic as ever, George Balanchine’s Rubies sparkles with jazz-infused energy and Broadway flair. Set to Stravinsky’s fiery Capriccio for Piano and Orchestra, it fuses classical technique with modern exuberance in a playful yet sophisticated display of sharp angles and syncopated rhythms.

“Flash and energy.” – The Oregonian

In the compelling UnSaid, Rowe uses the duet to embody Jonathan Safran Foer’s words: “We had everything to say to each other, and no ways to say it.” The piece gives voice to the unspoken, capturing the longing, conflict, and vulnerability that exists in the space between two people in motion.

“Thrilling.” – San Francisco Examiner

Tickets currently available by subscription only. Single tickets for Princess and the Pea will go on sale in October.
