Frequently Asked Questions
Doors to the lobby open 75 minutes prior to show time. For example, doors open at 6:15 pm for a 7:30 pm show. Doors to the theatre seating area open 30 minutes before curtain. So, you can take your seat as early as 7:00 pm for a 7:30 pm show.
Keep in mind that lines to enter the theatre can be long, so we strongly recommend arriving at least 30 minutes prior to the performance. Plan ahead and enjoy a drink or a snack, shop at the OBT boutique, snap a photo, get settled, and enjoy some people watching. Also, consider joining us for Performance Perspectives, an informative talk about the show you’re about to enjoy.
Enhance your experience by attending a pre-performance talk. Performance Perspectives, led by an OBT historian, is held inside the theatre. A specially curated, show-specific talk that includes insights on the show, its history, and artists, starts one hour prior to curtain and lasts approximately 30 minutes.
Depending on the specific show, late seating may be allowed during the curtain speech or during the first appropriate pause in the program. Decisions about late seating are made by house management and are subject to change. You may be temporarily seated in the back of the theatre, a balcony, or a crying room until intermission, where you can relocate to your ticketed seats. Please note that some programs, like OBT by Design, may not have an intermission. In some theatres, performances may be viewed on monitors in the lobby.
If you must leave the performance at any time once it has begun, you will not be readmitted until an appropriate break or intermission.
Purchasing tickets from third-party websites like KellerAuditoriumPortland, Portland-Theatre, StubHub, SeatGeek, Ticketmaster, or similar is strongly discouraged. The OBT Box Office is not able to provide ticket exchanges or other services related to tickets purchased from third-party sites.
Obt.org is the official ticketing website of Oregon Ballet Theatre. If you purchase your ticket elsewhere, you may be subject to increased ticket prices, fees, and invalid tickets. Protect your experience and purchase your tickets only through our website.
Most OBT performances are suitable for all ages 5 and up, unless otherwise noted on the event listing—but you know your child best. Please note that all children are required to have their own ticket, regardless of age, and that no children younger than age 3 are allowed except for the Nutcracker and the Annual School Performance. We require those who purchase tickets online to be 18 years or older, and children must sit next to an accompanying adult.
Going to the ballet can be a great reason to dress up, but there is no dress code at the theater. We encourage patrons to dress however they feel comfortable. We see everything from sequins to sandals to character costumes and tutus. We’ve even had a Santa! Be yourself (or not!) and enjoy the show.
You are welcome to use your phone in the lobby and the theatre until the curtain opens the show. Video recording or photography of the live performance is strictly prohibited. Performance material and music are copyrighted, and the performers require approval for image usage through unions. Theatre Ushers are instructed to ask patrons to stop recording or taking photos during the performance. Your experience and the experience of those around you will be interrupted. Photos during bows after the performance has ended are allowed.
Please be respectful and do not use your phone during the performance, as it can be distracting to the performers (they can see you) and even dangerous to dancers as they mark specific areas in the theatre as spots, and the light from the phone can misdirect them during a performance. Patrons using smart watches that light up are encouraged to remove and stow them as they can light up with movement and be distracting to other patrons.
Oregon Ballet Theatre does not cancel performances due to weather except in the most severe conditions. Unless otherwise noted on our website, the show will go on! In the unlikely event that a performance is cancelled, a notice will be posted on the website, and we will attempt to contact all ticketed guests by email immediately and by phone in the following days to facilitate rescheduling your tickets.
During a cancellation, you are welcome to contact our box office during business hours. However, please know that due to high call volume, it may take some time to answer or return your call. Rest assured that your ticket will still be valid and we will work with you to find the best possible solution as possible.
If the show is not cancelled but the driving conditions are not considered safe for your specific situation, and you have concerns about being able to arrive at the theater safely due to the weather, please contact the box office before your performance, and we will assist you with rescheduling your performance.
