Every child is welcomed, encouraged, and celebrated, no matter their background or ability.
Bringing Ballet to School Grounds
In partnership with local extracurricular programs, OBT After School brings the studio to your institution. We offer after-school dance classes in Portland to introduce ballet fundamentals and inspire self-expression, joyful movement, and connection, meeting students where they are.

Your School, Their Stage
Every child deserves the chance to shine, and our school partnerships help make that happen. Each class builds on the last, as our teaching artists follow a curriculum designed to progress their ballet technique and musicality.
Students don’t just learn ballet steps through our after-school dance classes in Portland. They learn how to listen, focus, and take up space with confidence. They don’t need dance experience, special uniforms, or transportation—just a willingness to try something new.

Our teaching artists lead the OBT After School program. These passionate professionals specialize in youth instruction, bringing age-appropriate ballet curricula to schools. Beyond dance expertise, they bring patience and creativity to every class, helping students feel seen and supported while they learn new skills.

Students don’t need to purchase special dance attire or shoes to participate in our after-school dance classes in Portland. We ask that everyone come as they are, in whatever clothing makes them feel comfortable. For most students, athletic wear like leggings and a t-shirt is perfect.
All we need is a clean, open space, such as a gym or cafeteria, where students can move freely and safely. We don’t require that schools have any mirrors, barres, or other special equipment, as our instructors adapt to the available environment and bring any materials required for an engaging class.
Absolutely! Oregon Ballet Theatre welcomes students to experience professional ballet through special field trip opportunities. These visits allow students to explore ballet behind the scenes, sitting in on rehearsals and witnessing all the focus, creativity, and teamwork that goes into a performance.
Students are also welcome to attend performances for just $6 per ticket, where they’ll enjoy an age-appropriate mainstage production. If transportation is an issue, we also offer performances in schools, where our dancers come to you.
Yes! Oregon Ballet Theatre School offers a variety of paid ballet classes for kids, helping students expand on their dance education. Our comprehensive curriculum begins with Pre-Ballet for children ages 3 and up, where we introduce movement, music, coordination, and ballet vocabulary in a nurturing environment.
As students grow, they can progress into Primary Ballet—typically around age 7—where they refine those skills before moving through more structured levels of training. Level 1 classes help students build a strong technical foundation. In Levels 2 through 6, students expand their skillset, mastering pirouettes and jumps and eventually beginning pointe work.
Please note that our faculty recommends the appropriate levels for students to start at and progress into, ensuring the pace suits their personal growth. From building confidence to exploring professional careers in dance, we support dancers on every level.
