Summary

In this program we break from traditional storytelling with works by master choreographers Jiří Kylián, Nacho Duato, and James Canfield. At once stunningly beautiful and poetic, Duato’s Arcangelo is an ode to the richness of harmony leading to a truly uplifting ending. Kylián’s tragi-comic Falling Angels pulsates with the energy of its all-female cast seeking unattainable perfection to the driving rhythms of Drumming, by Steve Reich. A silent counterpoint comes with Canfield’s Drifted in a Deeper Land, an homage to those we’ve loved and lost. We close with a premiere from rising choreographer Gemma Bond, a new voice whose “well-thought-out and risky choreography” continues to push the boundaries of classical ballet.
