ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE

Celebrating Balanchine On the 30th anniversary of George Balanchine’s death, we celebrate the diversity of his contribution to dance with three very different examples of his choreography. Stravinsky Violin Concerto offers our dancers the opportunity to let out all stops: two group sections, described by critics as "joyous as a houseful of puppies," frame two elemental pas de deux. Prodigal Son, a 1929 collaboration with modernist painter Georges Roualt and composer Sergei Prokofiev, is one of Balanchine’s earliest and most adventurous works, pulling pathos and passion out of the bible parable. Rounding out the celebration will be the return of audience favorite Square Dance.

Performed to prerecorded music
