Igor Stravinsky
Christopher Stowell

SYNOPSIS

Igor Stravinsky is among the ballet world’s most prolific and influential composers, and we honor that legacy with a trio of works that highlight his enduring genius and versatility. The original Rite of Spring caused a riot among shocked Parisians when it debuted nearly a century ago, and the Portland reaction to Christopher Stowell’s striking 2009 version was also noteworthy, if decidedly more civilized and enthusiastic. It’s joined here by Firebird, one of Russia’s most enduring and cherished fairy tales, lovingly recreated especially for OBT by Bolshoi-alumnus Yuri Possokhov. Anchoring the program is a much-anticipated world premiere jointly choreographed by OBT Principal Dancer Anne Mueller, Jamey Hampton and Ashley Roland from BodyVox and Rachel Tess of the Portland/Sweden-based Rumpus Room Dance.
