JACQUELINE MARTIN SCHUMACHER ENDOWMENT FUND

Jacqueline Martin Schumacher as a dancer, teacher and now

The Jacqueline Martin Schumacher Fund was established in December 2008 to ensure OBT’s vitality for years into the future.  The fund was named in honor of Mrs. Schumacher, a pivotal force in Portland's dance community.

Mrs. Schumacher is a former ballerina with San Francisco Ballet.  In 1940 she danced the lead role of Odette in the United States' first full-length performance of Swan Lake. After moving to Portland, she founded a ballet school and taught for 32 years. The excellent training she provided and her dedication to the local dance community planted the seeds for what would eventually become Oregon Ballet Theatre.

In establishing the endowment fund, Mrs. Schumacher worked closely with OBT to create a fund that would best serve the future of our organization. “I love the company, and I would do anything to see it flourish and grow,” said Mrs. Schumacher.

The principal of the endowment fund is carefully invested and each year it generates interest.  The interest gives OBT flexibility to meet changing needs and provides essential funding for programs.
